Creating The Visual Moment
I began my photography career in professional New York City darkrooms, processing film and making custom black-and-white prints ands walking around New Your City where I grew up doing street photography. Shooting a lot of Kodak Black+White Tri-X and Kodachrome film.
Those were the days.
Studying photography at the School of Visual Arts in NYC wasn’t just about photography. We studied Art history, we studied the Masters, How did Rembrandt create light in his paintings. We went to museums to see the original paintings with out teachers. We were privaledged to go to contemporary artists workshops. I was steeped in art, photography, drawing, painting, sculpture and advertising design.
I wasn’t very good at painting or sculpture.
My true love was photography.
I was fortunate to work in the film and video industry, in NYC for 18 years. I was a lighting grip. Adjusting lighting for many years under the direction of cinematographers I were working with.
I became Director of photography myself. I lit and shot TV shows, commercials and most of the talent at Sony Music Studios in NYC for interviews, music videos live concerts and more. I bring this knowledge with me to my work today as a wedding photographer.
